Secondary Headaches
- Caused by disease or medical condition
- Account for 10% of headaches
- Most common types:
- Cluster
- Migraine
- Sinus
- Tension
Diagnostic Criteria for secondary headaches:
- Headache with one (or more) of the characteristics listed for secondary headaches
- Another disorder is known to be able to cause the headache that is currently present
- Headache occurs in close temporal relation to the other disorder present or there is a causal relationship between the two
- Headache is reduced or completely gone within 3 months or less after successful treatment or spontaneous remission of causative disorder
Secondary headaches:
- Headache attributed to head and/or neck trauma
- Headache attributed to cranial or cervical vascular disorder
- Headache attributed to non-vascular intracranial disorder
- Headache attributed to a substance or its withdrawal
- Headache attributed to infection
- Headache attributed to disorder of homeostasis
- Headache attributed to psychiatric disorder
- Headache or facial pain attributed to disorder of cranium, neck, eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, teeth, mouth or other facial/cranial structures
